Entrance examination

The entrance examination includes oral tests (instrumental or vocal), an interview and a written test for the contemporary music course. The order of these tests may vary from year to year. Absence from any of the examinations is grounds for elimination. The candidates who have obtained the best results in all of the tests are admitted to training, depending on the number of places available for enrolment each year.

As the terms and conditions of each of the tests are subject to change, candidates are required to read the specific details of the tests for each discipline in the current year, which are published each year on the isdaT website.

However, the general arrangements for these tests are as follows:

Classical music oral examinations

  • 1st round by video: send to isdaT the link to a video (published on YouTube but not referenced) lasting between 10 and 12 minutes when you pre-register online. Please comply with the specific procedures and programmes requested for each discipline.
  • 2nd in-person round from 14 to 18 April 2025: instrumental or vocal performance of a programme lasting between 18 and 20 minutes, chosen from a programme defined by discipline, which can be consulted on the website from the start of pre-registration.

Depending on the instrument, there may also be a sight-reading of a short compulsory piece, including a preparation lasting the same amount of time as the piece.

Current music oral examinations

  • First round at a distance
A maximum of 12 minutes of an eclectic programme that will enable the jury to assess the candidate’s technical and instrumental qualities and his or her commitment to interpretation. The candidate will perform in a group for this programme.
  • Second round in presence
    — 5 to 7 minutes solo, with a personal composition and an improvisation
    — Deciphering test: 10 minutes in the box to prepare a piece to be performed.
    — 10-minute interview.

Interview

  • For all disciplines: interview with the jury lasting approximately 10 minutes, focusing on the candidate’s musical culture, artistic and professional project and motivations. The interview panel will take into account all the factors that will enable it to judge the soundness and coherence of the professional project, the candidate’s availability to follow the entire course, and his/her motivation to follow a course combining higher music education and university education.
