Hugo Schmitt
Born in 1980 in Montauban, Hugo Schmitt started playing the saxophone at the conservatory in his birthplace (class overseen by André Zorzin), before studying at the CRR de Toulouse Philippe Lecocq’s class, obtaining a Diploma of Musical Study in saxophone and chamber music in 2002. He then perfected his skills with Claude Delangle at the CNSMD de Paris, unanimously earning a DFS with high honours in 2007. Then entering the pedagogy training class run by the CNSMD de Paris, he obtained a Certificate of Proficiency as well as a Masters in teaching in 2010. Winner of numerous international competitions (Fnapec, Marco Fiorindo, Adolphe Sax, Saxiana), he was selected for the Tremplin youth competition created by the Selmer company in 2004. He has performed in prestigious groups such as the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, the Orchestre de Paris, the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, the Orchestre PasdeLoup, the Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne….
Hugo Schmitt has been teaching at the Conservatoire de Montauban since 2010, and is a representative of the artistic commission of the Orchestre de la Cité d’Ingres, also based in Montauban. He is also a founding member of the Spirale saxophone quartet (since 2000), of the Mirada y Cabeceo ensemble (since 2014) and of the Squillante ensemble (since 2007), with whom he has recorded three discs and performs throughout Europe. For ten years now he has been participating in the international saxophone workshop “Villa de Montefrio”, in Andalusia.
Thomas Barthelemy
Born in 1981 in Bayonne, Thomas Barthelemy began playing the saxophone at the CRR de Bayonne (class overseen by Eric Devallon), before studying at the CRR de Lyon and Versailles in the classes of Jean-Denis Michat and Vincent David. In 2005, he joined Claude Delangle’s class at the CNSMD de Paris, where he unanimously obtained a Master’s degree with high honours.
He is a founding member of the Squillante saxophone ensemble and has been invited to perform in many festivals: Flâneries Musicales de Reims (closing concert in front of 17,000 people), Folles jours de Nantes, Semaines Musicales de Quimper, Festival C pas Classique de Nice, Les concerts de l’improbable de Jean-François Zygel at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Festival of young performers at Radio France, Festival Musique en Vignes in Fronton, the bandstand at the Phénix de Valenciennes, the Boîte à musique de Jean-François Zygel on France Télévision in addition to the Iberico Festival in Badajoz in Spain, the Samobor festival in Croatia and the Mi-fugue, mi-raisin festival in Belgium among many others… He was for several years saxophonist in the Musique des Equipages de la Flotte in Brest. He has also performed with prestigious orchestras such as the Orchestre de Paris, the Orchestre Bordeaux Aquitaine, the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, the Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, the Orchestre “les Siècles” and the Intercontemporain ensemble.
He has been teaching since September 2017 at the CRR de Toulouse and since 2015 at Centre Supérieur de Musique du Pays Basque “Musikene”.
