conditions of admission

initial training

The competitive examination is open to candidates who fulfil the following conditions:

  • they hold a DEM or DNOP,
  • they hold a baccalauréat or an equivalent ratified qualification,

In addition to the above conditions, foreign candidates must provide:

  • proof of foreign degrees, translated into French,
  • a certificate of equivalency for the foreign qualification corresponding to the baccalauréat or bachelor’s degree, from the ENIC NARIC organisation,
  • valid visa or residency permit,
  • certificate of their level of French language (TCF B2, TEF, DELF B2 or DALF C1).

ongoing training

The examination is open to candidates fulfilling one of the following conditions:

  • they are able to prove teaching experience in music as an employee for at least 2 years, for 5 hours per week at least over a period of 30 weeks per year, or the equivalent in annual hours
  • they are able to prove a professional practice as a musical artist for at least 2 years, notably proving the payment of 48 intermittent fees over a 2-year period (or equivalent performance fees)
  • they hold the DEM or DNOP of music and exercise an activity as a teacher-employee, for 5 hours per week at least over a period of 30 weeks, or they are in the midst of a professional reorientation.

Depending on course capacity:

  • candidates who have obtained part of their degree by VAE within the last 5 years can be admitted to ongoing training for invalidated units or modules, following an interview.
  • candidates who have obtained part of their degree within the last 5 years can be admitted to ongoing training for invalidated units or modules, following an interview and by producing a portfolio presenting their training and professional experience.

In addition to the above conditions, foreign candidates must provide:

entrance examination

Candidates who wish to enter qualifying initial training or qualifying ongoing training must participate in all of the written and oral examinations. Any absence from one of the tests will eliminate the candidate. Since the terms and conditions of each of the tests may change, the candidates must inform themselves of the specificities of the tests for the year in question, which will be published each year on the isdaT website.

However, the general terms and conditions of these tests are as follows:

Written tests / Musical culture:

  • Listening commentary, analysis and/or retranscription, and/or writing, depending on the disciplines and domains.
  • Questionnaire concerning the candidate’s background and motivation.

Oral tests

  • Instrumental skills: instrumental interpretation (the terms and conditions of the tests may differ depending on the disciplines, fields, and options chosen by the candidates, who must refer to the documents available on the website.)
  • Communication skills, general culture and motivations: individual interview with the jury.

The entrance exams of certain disciplines and fields are specific (piano accompaniment, conducting vocal ensembles, music teaching, jazz, contemporary music, traditional music, ancient instruments). The programme of tests is available for download below at the time of enrollment.

school fees

The amount of the registration fee for the entrance exam is 52 euros or 35 euros in case of second enrollment. The total school fees for the initial training are 215 euros for the 2017/2018 year, plus the cost of social security and civil liability insurance.
